Intercultural Ambassador
Intercultural Ambassador
Start date: Mar 1, 2013,
One EVS volunteer from Latvia will go to Chile in April 2013, to complete her project Intercultural Ambassador and return home in July 2013. The mission of the project is to increase the intercultural awareness in two dimensions with the help of AFS Intercultural Programs, a non-governmental, non-profit voluntary organization working towards a more just and peaceful world. The first dimension covers Chile, where the volunteer will be actively involved in the daily operations of AFS Chile, such as informative promotion of Europe as an exchange destination in public events, with a particular focus on the less known Eastern European and Balkan countries, and participation in home interviews for future exchange students and host families. Additionally, the volunteer, with the assistance of AFS Chile volunteers and participation of other European exchange students, will organize monthly intercultural activity European Night (La Noche Europea), sharing the information about their countries in five different events - History, Civil Society, Politics & Economics, Art and Sports. This will be presented to other participants, as well as the local communities and youth, widening the perception of Europe as a continent "united in diversity". Apart from the information, the participants will be involved using interactive workshops and inclusive methods of informal education. This will also create a multiplier effect and trigger the students to become volunteers after their exchange, developing the youth activity and leadership throughout Europe. The second dimension of the project covers Latvia, when the volunteer, with the help of AFS Latvia, will share her experiences and ideas of how to develop AFS Latvia as the leading intercultural non-governmental organization in Latvia, involve in AFS Latvia as a trainer for other volunteers, implement various successful ideas encountered in AFS Chile and develop youth initiative, creativity and leadership, and civil society in Latvia.
