Interaction and management of multilingual and multicultural classrooms

Project: a 5-day seminar for the Liepaja Evening (shift) Secondary school teachers '' Interaction and management of multilingual and multicultural classrooms'' in training center ''Infol - Innovation Training Orientation and Employment'' in Rome, Italy.At present, the European Union is facing an acute problem of refugees from war and social problems affected Middle East and Africa regions. Latvia, as one of the Member States of EU must take responsibility on the part of these people and try to help them and integrate them in society. Successful integration of the representatives of other cultures is based on timely national language and cultural preparation which can be implemented with Liepaja evening (shift) secondary school teachers help, who are specialized in adult education. In parallel to the acquisition of education, the school also offers our students a wide range of career education and counseling spectrum, psychologist and social pedagogue support that for these people can be practically useful in trying to integrate into Latvian society. Due to the fact that most of the asylum seekers in Europe is drawn up by people with a different cultural background, religion, mentality, to be able to provide valuable, real support for these people, school teachers need to improve their knowledge, gaining theoretical and practical knowledge of the basics.The training center in Italy was selected as Italy is one of the European countries, where for several years takes place asylum seekers integration process and as a result has been accumulated rich practical experience.Participants group consists of 6 people, whose professional specialty is directly linked to the objective pursued: the Latvian language and Latvian history and culture of teaching and support for the integration of asylum seekers. The group includes two of the Latvian language and literature, history and social science teacher, social educator, teacher of English, which is a professional career counselor and psychology teacher in charge of communication.The seminar speakers will be used in a variety of methods (lectures, role plays, case and material analysis and modeling, and others) to the seminar participants form a thorough understanding of the different communication styles with multi-ethnic groups of students, the ability to critically evaluate intercultural cooperation and the ability to get feedback from the process stakeholders, ability to recognize the potential of cross-cultural conflicts and to manage the situation as regards the stability of skills to promote intercultural dialogue between different values, beliefs and attitudes and as a result would eventually lead to a positive, cooperative microclimate in the classroom and school.During the seminar, participants will have the opportunity to, in parallel with theoretical training, also observe the process of learning at school, which educated asylum seekers. Assessing all the information obtained and the use of existing and newly acquired knowledge, experienced school staff will be able to plan and implement smart, effective training and assistance programs for their prospective students.After returning home, the workshop participants will be able to share experiences with colleagues in their school and other educational institutions.Seriously integration processes in Europe will continue, so the acquired knowledge and experience will be invaluable assistant to all teachers for future work.
