Inspirations from outside
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: Sep 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Project "Inspirations From Outside" is the result of previous contact between the Evangelisches Jugendwerk and YMCA Brest/Belarus. Our desire to continue working together has grown steadily over time, and the European Volunteer Service is central to achieving this. "Inspirations From Outside" seeks to use the experience, skills and interests of overseas volunteers to develop our work here in Germany, and to deepen the cooperation between the Evangelisches Jugendwerk Bezirk Oehringen and YMCA Brest/Belarus. Working with volunteers from different organisations and countries builds mutual respect and appreciation, and develops the scope of our work internationally. “Inspirations From Outside” has place for three volunteers from YMCA Brest. These volunteers should have experience of working with children and teenagers, and some experience of working in committees. Ideally, volunteers should also have some knowledge of educational issues, working with groups, motivating and training new volunteers, leading outdoor activities and sports, and hospitality. Volunteers will be responsible for a wide range of activities, including arranging educational inputs, working in a children’s club once a week, training new volunteers, and organising outdoor and sporting events. They will also have the opportunity to help establish and develop a youth club in a needy area of Oehringen. There may also be occasional administrative work and helping in other activities of our organization. Before taking part in “Inspirations from Outside” all volunteers are asked to undergo a detailed application process. Throughout the project there are meetings to discuss practical details and opportunities to reflect on progress. At the conclusion of the project volunteers will take part in an intensive evaluation. “Inspirations from Outside” has several aims; to increase awareness and acceptance of the European Volunteer Service both within our organization and in the local area; to develop our work with children and teenagers; to generate and establish new youth projects, and to deepen intercultural and international awareness. An important long-term benefit will also be stronger links with YMCA Brest. Volunteers who join our project at a later date will undoubtedly continue and further the work begun by earlier groups.
