Innovation and Development in Spanish as a Second ..
Innovation and Development in Spanish as a Second Language.
Start date: Oct 15, 2012,
The IDELE project seeks to contribute towards the modernization of the Higher Education model of Egypt, and to prepare professors of Spanish as a foreign language by implementing a joint Master’s degree between Egyptian and European universities in line with the Bologna model. Contributions could additionally lead to expanding and motivating Spanish language learning at all levels of education in North Africa. As part of the development of this project, a stable and complementary consortium was created and composed of the six principle universities of Egypt (Cairo, Ain-Shams, Al-Azhar, Helwan, Minia and Alexandria) and three of the most longstanding universities in Europe (Salamanca, Bologna and Coimbra). Additionally, the Institute of Islamic Studies in Spain (Egyptian Embassy in Spain), the Egyptian Hispanists’ Association, and the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education will participate in the project. This consortium will enable the achievement of additional project objectives such as the geographic dispersion, official recognition of the Master’s degree, thus contributing towards its funding and dissemination throughout the Arab world. The design of the Master’s degree was based on the experience of the University of Salamanca in preparing Spanish teachers, and the experience of the remaining universities in preparing a university and postgraduate degree in Spanish. The degree will follow a model harmonized between the Egyptian and European post graduate models, and will take into consideration the need for Spanish in Egypt in the fields of education and business. Didactic contents will be prepared for the development of the educational program, and will be available through the teleformation platform. An evaluation system will be implemented in order to ensure the quality of the education provided, thus contributing towards the continuity of the program and stimulating interest in an increasing number of students and universities both within and outside Egypt.
