The research of the European Commission (based on http://konferencje.frse.org.pl/TIK/index/lang:pl) shows that currently there are as many as 8 million jobs in the sector of information and communication technologies (ICT); the sector generates as much as 6% of the GDP of the EU. Therefore, the aim of our „IT without borders” project is to increase the attractiveness and mobility of our students on the European labour market, so that, after graduating, they can use the present opportunities and become attractive employees for the whole European ICT sector. Our assumptions are that the participants of the project will expand their professional knowledge, improve their language skills (mostly in professional German) and learn about the realities of work in the ICT sector in Germany. The project is aimed at organising internships for 40 people in Germany, in the field of computer networks. It is prepared for the students of the second class of the secondary information technology school, from among whom in the school year 20015/2016 we are going to recruit 20 best students. They are going to have two-week internships preceded by a course in German and German culture organised in the school. As part of the project, the students are going to take part in a 50-hour German course for IT professionals, workshops with a sociotherapist and a career development professional, as well as in a course in occupational health and safety. They are also going to learn about the culture, history and specificity of the country and region they are going to visit. During the internship, the students are going to develop not only their professional skills but also their language, cultural and personal skills. They are going to actively use their free time, developing their language skills, learning about history, monuments and topography of Germany through scheduled trips; this will also help shape their attitude of openness to cultural diversities and make international contacts or friendships. In order to meet these goals, both partners (the sending and the receiving institutions) are equally and at every stage involved in the preparation and execution of the project. In order to ensure the high quality of the undertaken actions and achieve the assumed goals, the partners have signed an agreement on cooperation, developed a programme of the visit and the internship, an evaluation plan and a plan for the dissemination of the results. The partners established also the principles of recognition of qualifications gained during the internship. It has been agreed that the students will receive a Europass CV, a Europass Mobility, and an Internship Certificate and Evaluation. The partners decided also to apply the ECVET procedure. The authors of the project assume that the completion of these tasks will make it possible to achieve the following goals:
- the development of knowledge and professional skills of the participants, the increase in their professional qualifications, evidenced with relevant certificates, which in turn will have a positive impact on their chances to find a job meeting their expectations;
- the increase in the students’ motivation to learn (foreign languages, vocational subjects) and as a result the increase in the aspirations and professional expectations of the students (which may translate into passing a vocational examination, a secondary school examination, a willingness to look for work adequate to their skills, a willingness to continue education);
- the increase in the self-esteem and independence of the students, which should translate into their active attitude to job search and career planning;
- the increase in the cultural competences of the students, including their familiarity with the German job market and openness towards other societies, which will make them more mobile on the European job market.
The implementation of the project will also result in increased competences, new professional experiences and tightening of the cooperation between the partners. For the Technical Education School Complex (ZST), the implementation of the project will also mean the increased attractiveness and prestige in the local community, also among the students of lower secondary schools, who tend to choose schools which offer them attractive and modern forms of vocational education. The implementation of the project will also have a positive impact on the teachers of the school. They will gain new professional experience (including learning new methods and ways of conducting vocational classes) and prepare materials and educational aids (which they will be able to use also after the project, working with other students). The dissemination of the results of the project will also have an impact on the perception of other graduates of the secondary information technology school on the local job market – as mobile, competent and flexible employees.
