'Inclusive Growth' - een dialoog tussen jongeren en beleidsmakers/bestuurders uit het jeugdveld
Start date: May 1, 2012,
Every child has the right to grow up and become a healthy and independent adult. International research has shown that children in care and leaving the care system, have a high risk of social exclusion - they have a higher risk of unemployment, greater likelihood of teenage parenthood, over-representation among homeless people and higher levels of offending behavior and mental health problems than their peers. Living in and leaving the care system challenges young people in every aspect of their lives. To become socially included they have to find ways of meeting their material and psycho-social needs. They have to be sufficiently secure in their own identity to have the self-confidence and social competence to deal with the day-to-day aspects of their lives outside the care system. Child- and youth care organizations are their to help these children.Reaching 'social inclusion' is a difficult process. Even the most experienced child and youth care organizations face problems when it comes to improving the situation of young people with fewer opportunities. Their programs don’t always lead to 'inclusion'. The question is what these young people really want and need. Young people growing up in the child- and youth care system are experts by experience. They are an important, but so often missing link in the process of finding solutions and policy making. FICE-NL believes that the expertise of young people provides an essential contribution to the discussion about 'inclusion' in the child- and youth care field. In this project FICE-NL will enabling young people growing up in the child and youth care system to speak out and generate awareness among policy makers and governments about their needs to grow up 'inclusive'. They will be given the the opportunity to be in dialogue with policy makers about their situation and influence/be part of the decision-making processes of organizations and governments. Next to a more common discussion, FICE-NL wants to try to reach a specific group: young people in the juvenile justice system. This last group is one of the target groups of an international conference of FICE International in Bern in 2013.
