Improvising Culture
Start date: May 1, 2016, End date: Dec 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

On the one hand, Europe is facing a huge flux of migration and there are many young people on the move. NGO's in Europe should be more equipped than ever to be more inclusive and more open to different races, cultures and religions. On the other hand, countries outside Europe are dealing with the refugee crisis as well and have these same needs. The refugee crisis only accentuates difficulties that are common at all times to all NGO's and is demanding even more. This reinforces the need and importance of inter-cultural dialogue. Diversity in beliefs and convictions can lead to misconceptions and fear and the lack of ability to communicate in the mother language of the country may lead to exclusion and hamper integration. In light of this, it is thus very important to have effective and constructive dialogue between people and cultures. Inter-cultural dialogue helps people to understand other cultures better and thus be more open to inclusion and be also more tolerant. Likewise, it is important that the young people within these countries feel empowered and that they can work towards the change they want to see. Despite its importance, it is not always easy to deal with such a sensitive topic and thus through ongoing collaboration from the partner organisation we decided to tackle this topic through new and innovative tools using improv theatre.Improv theatre gives the opportunity to the participants to be equipped with new tools, skills and knowledge to be able to engage with young people so that they can tackle inter-cultural dialogue and promote inclusive organisations. Through acting and taking the leading and not just being spectators the youth leaders/workers and ultimately the young people will have the possibility to be the change in their country and to promote more dialogue and active participation. 'Improvising Culture' Training Course will take place in Malta between the 23 - 30 November 2015. It will bring together XX participants coming from XXThrough numerous non-formal methods of education the participants will not only be equipped with new tools and skills but they will also the opportunity to try out these new tools and to think and reflect on how these can be adapted to their own context and situation in their countries. This will result in a direct impact on the participants, partner organisations and also the young people they work with.
