Ideest praktikani, praktikast kogemuseni. Tartu Kunstikool õpirändel Euroopas.
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

This project is initiated by the need to raise the relevance of art and design studies in Tartu Art School to the prevalent labour-market trends. The main characteristics of the industry’s current labour market are growing diversity of the needed services followed by growing expectations on professional skills as well as education and teaching methodologies. More characteristics would include growing internationalization and project based distance work along with wide professional networking. As a vocational educator in the field of art and design, Tartu Art School’s mission is to respond to the field’s labour market needs, providing learners and staff with the adequate competencies. Due to the above, the project concentrates in developing transversal competencies of the participants, including not only specific professional skills but also their personal and international competencies to better meet the needs of the current labour market. The project activities are concentrated in enhancing the quality of TAS curricula regarding to integration of general and professional studies, project-based learning, development of methodologies and teaching materials. The project was developed by defining the training needs of the participants, creating the necessary partner network and project teams in the participating organisations. During the project, 2 Tartu Art School graphic design students and 16 staff members will have international learning periods in 5 partner organisations in Slovenia, Italy, Germany, Luxemburg and Finland. The students will be selected in competition. Participating staff members were chosen above their own description of their training needs and according to the strategic development needs of TAS. All the participants will be provided with relevant cultural, linguistic and organizational support. The participating organisations have agreed on expected learning outcomes, time and length of the training periods and initial programmes which will ne defined in Learning Agreements, Work Programmes before the training. TAS will arrange financial contracts, travel, insurance and accommodation for the participants. The students' specialty-related learning outcomes and all the participants' international learning outcomes will be evaluated in the host organisations and validated and recognized in TAS. Professional learning outcomes of the participating staff will be evaluated upon their activity and achievements during a longer assessment period in TAS. The project will be evaluated in cooperation with the partner organisations upon development and satisfaction of the participants, development and motivation of project team members of the participating organisations, achievement of the project aims and sustainability of the implemented activities. The results of the project will be disseminated through professional networks and associations, regular publicity activities, at TAS critiques and presentation of graduation portfolios in the presence of work life representatives and other relevant stakeholders. Internationally, the project results will be analyzed, evaluated and disseminated in a regular meeting of the European network of vocational art and design institutions. The project has positive effect on art and design studies in TAS both for the participants and the organization, and therefore on the industry’s labour market in general. The international hands-on experience and transversal competencies developed in the course of the training periods abroad will increase the participants' motivation and opportunities in the labour market, at the same time better guaranteeing the availability of adequately qualified labour for the art and design industry. The project strengthens networking and cooperation between the participating organizations and their partners as well as capability and motivation of the organisations for further international activity, thus supporting developments in vocational education according to the needs of the industry on both local and international level. Positive outcomes and impact on the participants, teaching and participating organizations raise the attractiveness of vocational education in the field of art and design.
