The Centre for Intercultural Education in Nowy Sącz is a social organization working in the field of education and culture, and is a non-profit association of national scope. Members of the Centre are offered a wide range of activities, a variety of courses and workshops, jointly prepared performances, educational-integrative events, and contact with the international community, forming their main interest in this period of life and the reason for their social activity. Currently, we run three courses for pensioners, 3 language courses for children and regular club meetings. Our work is based on the engagement of volunteers and not fully-qualified teachers without sufficient ICT skills, that is why it is very important for us to assist the constant training and retraining of our staff. We are convinced that all our clients would profit if we could offer our teachers and course leaders more methodological and technological support.
As we aim at introducing changes in term of modernization, with the help of this project we would like to give our staff members the chance to participate in the training courses by the International League of Esperantist Instructors (ILEI). This training program covering the main areas of our interest in innovations in the field of adult education will be carried through a series of four training sessions where our staff members can achieve not only theoretical knowledge but also practical skills.
As we are planning the modernization of our administrative structure and the complete revision of the teaching offers for various age groups, initially we would like to get training for a group of five staff members to get general introduction and new basic knowledge enabling them to apply the modern technology in our organization. Their task will be to adjust the technology to our needs and give assistance to other staff member willing to introduce the innovations into their courses. After this introductory training session courses on specific modernization areas will follow. They are particularly interesting for our staff members responsible for these fields that is why a small number of colleagues will participate in them.
The topics of the training program of the project.
Topic 1 – ICT Tools in Modern Didactics and Course Administration (Germany 26 July – 02 August 2014)
Topic 2 - Methodology and Practical Application of On-line and Blended Learning (Germany, 29 September - 03 October 2014)
Topic 3 – Modern Principles of Andragogy. ICT for Adult Language Education (workshop in Slovakia, November 2014)
Period of introduction of innovations in the home institution: trainees will start to work on the modernization of our course management and language instruction methodology.
Topic 4 – International Curriculum and Assessment. Strategies for International Cooperation (consultation with specialists on creating a network of experts in the field of adult education. Hungary, March 2015)
Project implementation period: implementation of the modernized curriculum, ICT-based language instruction system which will mean increased quality and attractive offers of our institution.
The participation in the training sessions abroad will enable our staff to acquire the theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary to introduce ICT innovations and modernized methodology to our language instruction system. It will help to construct the infrastructure and renovate the administrative side. As many of our staff members belong to the older generation which did not have the chance to get accustomed to modern technology in particular in the field of education, it is crucial to equip them with the know-how to be able to offer up-to-date service to their course participants.
Taking part in professional courses and seminars will not only give the participants the knowledge enabling to introduce modern technology and methodology in our institution but also the opportunity to meet professionals, learn from experts and colleagues from other European countries and give them the feeling of belonging to a larger international community.
