ICT for Information Accessibility in Learning
Start date: Jan 1, 2013,
Within all European countries there are moves towards inclusion and equitable learning opportunities in education for all learners. The promotion of equity is a clear strategic challenge for the EU member states reflected in the Strategic framework ET 2020 and the fact the EU and 27 Member States are signatories of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (2006).The ICT4IAL consortium is a multi-disciplinary network of European and international partners that represent both learning and ICT communities. The ICT4IAL consortium recognises the risks posed by the digital divide and argues that inaccessible information for and in learning creates a barrier for learners with special needs. The ICT4IAL network activities aim to:- Raise awareness of the crucial issue of accessible information provision and its relevance for equitable lifelong learning opportunities- Support accessible information provision within organisations in the field of Lifelong Learning These aims will be reached by:- Fostering multi-disciplinary exchange and co-operation across stakeholders in the education and ICT sectors - Developing practical Guidelines for accessible information provision based on the Accessible Information for Lifelong Learning project (2011-2012) 190583-LLP-1-2010-DK-KA1-KA1ECETA- Trialling these Guidelines within the work of three organisations (EA, EUN, IAU) working in the compulsory and higher education sectors with support of key advisory bodies for ICT (DAISY, G3ict, UNESCO and Adobe)- Engaging in a process of feedback and validation of the guidelines via the European and global country network members of the consortium partners. The work of the ICT4IAL network will lead to concrete strategies for promoting information accessibility as an essential strategy for ensuring equity in lifelong learning opportunities for learners with special needs.
