I, citizen
Start date: Aug 1, 2013,

Nowadays on the Balkans, there appears to be a real lack of understanding amongst students as to what the concept of citizenship is. While some may equate it with ethnicity, others may think of it in terms of minority/majority status. Others still do not have a clear concept of it as lines have been blurred with the dissolution of the former Yugoslavia. While the concept also has problems at the adult level,it is important to begin inculcating into students, especially those at the high school level, a sense of citizenship and an understanding of what means to be a citizen, including all the rights and responsibilities pertaining to citizens granted by the state. The youth exchange “I citizen” will happen in Strumica Macedonia and will gather 42 youngsters from 6 countries, Macedonia, Serbia; Bosnia; Italy, Romania and Bulgaria. The main theme of the project is European Citizenship and what means to be good Citizen from all aspects. Through the project we will improve participants skills, enrich their personal development, enrich their knowledge about citizenship, make them think more about involving themselves actively in the communities they live in, give them a chance to present and compare the experiences of young people from different parts of Europe, and help them build a pure youth concept of what it means to be a good citizen in Europe. The 8days will provoke all this topics among the youngsters involved. Also they will find ways to improve their skills for being good citizen through teambuilding, sport activities, presentations, simulation exercises, interactive games. At the last day an open debate will be organized and local students will be included in the debate about citizenship. During the exchange youngsters will work on creating a booklet called “I citizen”, educative booklet where they will put the gain knowledge and that will contain possible proposals and solutions for good citizenship, and to learn more about democracy.
