HOUSE ON FIRE
Start date: Jun 1, 2012,
In the past few years, artists and cultural agents have started to claim a place in the public debate about social, environmental and political issues, arguing that artists have an active role to play in society and that artistic creation offers a valid source of knowledge and experience. HOUSE on FIRE joins ten theatres/festivals with an active interest in the development of issue-based programming and sets out to realize the following activities: Co-productionsHoF will co-produce and present performing arts productions that have the ambition to make a contribution to the critical debate of issues on the political and social agenda. Each production will be co-produced by at least two partners of the network and made available for further presentation in Europe. Thus, HoF strives to internationalize the strong creative impulses of the new paradigm of social responsibility and political activism that is emerging in arts.Thematic programsHoF will develop multidisciplinary thematic programs in all partner countries, made up of performances, conferences, film screenings, concerts, projects for children, community-based initiatives and workshops. They are realized in close collaboration with Associated Partners from universities and civil society and include participants from all over Europe. They focus on the sustainability of human civilization at a point in history when globalization is putting enormous strains on existing systems, but also offering new opportunities. Copy-booksHoF takes on the challenge of critically engaging the new ‘reality trend’ in contemporary performance. It will produce a series of five downloadable publications about thematic approaches in the performing arts. The copy-books will include interviews with artists, critical analyses, description of working processes and methodologies, etc. and strive to make an up-to-date and flexible cartography of thematic creation and programming in the performing arts.
