Hospital Equipment of Karelia
Start date: Jun 30, 2002, End date: Jun 29, 2005 PROJECT  FINISHED

Based on preliminary studies there is a lack of all kinds of hospital equipment and instruments for the disabled in the Karelian Republic. The Finnish hospitals and institutions are continuously renewing their equipment, which could be used after repair and service. At the moment the equipment disposed of has been stored and will be scrapped. The project will establish repair workshops in two work and recycling centres. The labour needed will be recruited among the long-term unemployed or among people who for some other reason have difficulties in getting employed. Repaired equipment will be transported to the Karelian Republic monthly. Achievements: The project established new workshops repairing hospital equipment and aid appliances for the disabled in Ekosiili and EkoKuopio. Altogether 24 lorry and 8 van loads of hospital equipment and aid appliances were collected, repaired and transported to the Republic of Karelia. The Finnish hospitals got an environmentally-friendly and sustainable way to get rid of their used equipment, and the hospitals of the Republic of Karelia got badly needed hospital equipment and aid appliances. The project drafted a registry about the Finnish donor hospitals and the hospitals in the Republic of Karelia receiving equipment, to be used by various organisations.
