Higher education student and staff mobility project
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: Sep 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

26 students in their first year of preparation of a BTS in wine & spirits selling spent two months between 30th May & 31st August 2016 in an on-the-job international training experience.Their experience is mandatory in order to go on to the second year of study. 22 students stayed in Europe while 4 students went to different countries outside of Europe. The main objectives of this experience are to help the students obtain an international way of looking at the world of sales in wine & spirits & to discover other cultures & professional methods. They also hope to better their skills in English. This year the MFR de Vayres had the chance to offer the possibility for two members of the staff to carry out a short period of training in Ireland & Northern Italy. For them, It was a challenging experience which has broadened their horizons & has brought self-confidence & a method in organising their international mobility. Speaking several languages is a real asset for future employment opportunities. The MFR of Vayres encourages their students by helping them obtain scholarships from Europe & from the Aquitaine region & the French Ministery of Agriculture. Students carry out their training periods in wine shops, cellars, wine bars, wine-merchants, importers, wineries, restaurants as sommelier assistants & other kinds of businesses in relation with the making & sales of wines & spirits. Before leaving France, the students follow courses that prepare them for their professional & cultural exchanges. Language proficiency is very important. They undertake tasks such as selling, giving advice, receiving customers, prospecting, leading wine tastings, guiding tours & visits, offering wine & food matching sessions, doing paper work, updating online catalogues & data base... At the end of their training period abroad, students are evaluated by their mentors. When they return to the MFR, they must submit a written report in English & pass a 20-minute oral exam in English. They also prepare an exhibition - photo, slides, films, tastings in order to share their experience with the other students & the teaching team. Because of their on-the-job international training experience, many of our students feel attracted by other international jo/work experiences at the end of their studies. They are more autonomous in their action & view on things. They feel a lot more confident when speaking English if they are back from an English-speaking country & they are more involved in the foreign language learning. Some of them are invited to stay or come back to work in the host company after their graduation. This year, a student is going to carry out all her training periods in the wine bar in whicih she did her placement last summer. She will be hired after her graduation.
