Higher education student and staff mobility project
Start date: Jun 1, 2014, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Mobility of students and staff is one of the vehicles of HAN to realize their international ambitions and aspirations. Physical mobility programmes are seen as a part of Internationalisation as a whole. In other words as a comprehensive aspect of HAN’s focus of Internationalisation of the Home Curriculum. A result of this is a solid increase of short and long-term mobility (e.g. Erasmus+ KA103) over the last couple of years, since 2012 annually over 15%. HAN aims the Leuven/Louvain-la-Neuve Communiqué of a mobility target of 20% in 2020 which implies progress. But HAN, as well as many other Dutch HE-institutions, is facing a big challenge. Although the Erasmus + budget EU-wide has substantially improved we receive less Erasmus grants then before. If Europe aims for growth towards the set mobility target funding should go parallel to realize this. It clearly isn't the case for 14-16. Due to our increase, nearly 20% students have ended up reported as 0-grant. We supplemented the lack of funds with OS-budget and own funding. For 2015-17 this number will increase. Due to lower Erasmus+ contribution and despite of strict selections over 40% will not covered by the Erasmus+ mobility funding. So for long term more stringent measures need to be taken. The university will need to reserve private budgets for promotion of mobility to realize the target in line with the earlier mentioned Leuven/Louvain agreement.
