This Erasmus + consortium is coordinated by the Regional council and gathers 9 higher education institutions in the field of health and social care (colleges) in Lorraine and has been constituted to develop the mobility placement of the health and social care students of Lorraine.
Within their educational projects, the colleges are keen to link up the content of the training with the European social trends: the fight against discrimination, reducing inequality, opening doors for people with a disability. Moreover, general and specialized nursing training both use a study programme based around work experience placements: the programme is centered on two main training components, 50% within the institution via lectures, supervised work and guided personal studies and 50% within training placements. The European mobility scheme for health and social care students therefore can respond to the requirement to access new professional practices, to face new professional situations which are more common in certain European Union countries.
An ERASMUS + placement contributes to the achievement of the colleges educational project targets to encourage student mobility.
This project increases the diversification of training opportunities in Europe because until 2009 students primarily undertook humanitarian programmes outside the European Union.
A wide variety of training locations is expected since the courses are just as likely to take place in state and private hospitals as they are in a non-hospital medical facility.
The objectives of the project and the benefits for 76 students, who had a mobility, are as follows:
- Acquiring new skills and new professional practices
- Observing the "core business" skills framework of the country visited
- Improving one's knowledge of another language
- Nurturing a lust for knowledge and lifelong learning
- Exploring the health issues present within Europe
- Acquiring an open mind in order to be better prepared to care for patients coming from other countries.
The colleges of Lorraine and the Regional Council chose to develop the mobility placement Erasmus + of student nurses within the framework of a consortium to guarantee the quality of the exchanges by a mutualization of the experiences and the internship places.
The Erasmus + course consortium can also be considered as a springboard for partner establishments within Lorraine to develop new national or European projects. In fact, for some establishments, being part of the Erasmus course consortium during the previous programme has been enabled them to have a preliminary experience of organizing a course with European partners. After this preliminary experience, we have noticed that some establishments are planning outgoing Erasmus + study placements and to host students or trainees from other European countries in Lorraine.
