Higher education student and staff mobility project
Start date: Jun 1, 2014, End date: Sep 30, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

Our institution is a state vocational one in the field of Catering, Hospitality and Tourism Industry. Since its birth 25 years ago (in 1991), European mobility has always been part of our Educational Policy, not only during the Longlife Learning Programme (participating in Comenius, Leonardo da Vinci and Erasmus) but also before, under previous European programmes such as Petra or Socrates. Transnational mobility is an integrating part of our college policy. Due to our background experience in this type of programmes, students and staff do not really need to be encouraged to take part in them, as there is impending interest in our community, being this the reason why we are constantly looking for new partners either in other Higher Education Institutions or in companies within the field of Catering, Hospitality and Tourism Industry. Teaching and training under the Erasmus + Programme for Higher Education (K103) is based on the following aims: - To make our student, teacher and staff community aware of the importance of the European dimension, offering them the opportunity to receive tuition and training abroad. - To improve our students´, teachers´ and staff´s knowledge of other languages. We firmly consider that the more competent they are in commanding foreign languages and their corresponding socio-cultural aspects, the more chances they have to be successful in future educational and professional projections. - To encourage the exchange, cooperation and mobility between education systems in Europe, breaking the barriers that traditionally surrounded Higher Education Institutions. - To increase the transparency between high-level qualifications and High Degree vocational studies in the Spanish educational systems, all of them considered Higher Education, supporting the development of syllabi and teaching methods, being innovative and making use of Information Technologies. - To promote the cooperation with the business community, offering a combination of capacities and competences in the labour market and facilitating the development of innovative training in high-level education. - To keep the quality standard acquired after having been awarded the + 300 EFQM excellence stamp in June 2012. - To comply with non-discrimination objectives, being in favour of social cohesion, intercultural dialogue and equality between men and women, based on respect and tolerance. - To contribute to make European high-degree education to be more visible and appealing within the society. The number of participants is increasing call after call, although last year the number decreased from call 2013-2014 (from 41 to 24) due to the reductions applied to all participants in K103. Regarding students´ mobilities, we carry out both types (SMS and SMT). As Higher Degree Formative Cycles in Spain (i.e. Short cycles in Higher Education) count on ECTS system since the implementation of the LOE (Educational Law) in Spain, this allows both outgoing and incoming students to get a full recognition of their mobility period. The students who carried out these mobilities came from the different sectors of our educational field of Tourism, Catering and Hospitality Industry. Last call, we also received students and staff in our institution. We hosted a student from our partner Higher Education Institution in Strasbourg, Lycée des Métiers de L´Hôtellerie et du Tourisme Alexandre Dumas. It was a four-month Student Mobility for Studies. Concerning staff mobilities, all the three participants opted for Staff Training. Two of the teachers are in the field of Tourism and one in the field of Business & Entreprenurial Initiative. Furthermore, we also received three teachers who carried out Staff Mobilities for Teaching Assignments, two from the Lycée des Métiers de L´Hôtellerie et du Tourisme Alexandre Dumas, and one from the Higher Hotel Institute Cyprus, in Nicosia. Our next step is to keep our company / higher education institution agreements and look for new ones. That is why, during the last call, we signed two new interinstitutional agreements: one with Higher Hotel Institute in Nicosia, Cyprus, (CY NICOSIA08) and another with South West College in Enniskillen, Northern Ireland (UK OMAGH01) and we also set up new agreements with three new hotels in France, one in Belgium and one tourist information office in Lisbon. Our geographical areas tend to cover the requirements of our students, who study both French and English, and of our staff too. Our policy is open to set up agreements with more Higher Education Institutions and companies within our scope of vocational studies.
