Higher education student and staff mobility project
Start date: Jun 1, 2014, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The Erasmus project 2014 extended over all types of mobilities: students and lecturer as well as admin staff got involved in the exchange programme, the focus being student mobility for studying or doing internships abroad. Many of our programmes include an obligatory stay abroad so that the average student at our University of Applied Sciences can be regarded as rather open-minded when it comes to international or European mobility. Compared to the previous projects, the outgoing figures have remained stable. However, the choice of destination seems to be subject to certain trends. In order to improve the incoming mobility's quality, we have established a buddy programme in the past. It is in high demand on both sides: The incoming students make good use of it and the former outgoings love to become buddies to share their international expertise with mentees. We ascribe this to the fact that participating in the Erasmus programme seems to make students more sensitive towards questions of alterity, being new somewhere, looking for help and support not only in the international offices administering the process, but particularly within their own peer group. In the context of the project 2014, some staff mobilites could be implemented within the framework of staff training weeks that our partners organised. FH Stralsund's internationalisation strategy (with clear focus on the Baltic countries) could be advanced and promoted further.
