Anhalt University of Applied Sciences offers innovative teaching and research in the classical fields of Science, Technology and Engineering as well as Economics and more creative courses of study such as Design. Over 8000 students are enrolled at our three sites in Bernburg, Dessau and Köthen. Roughly one in four students has an international background. For decades the university has promoted internationalization at home and abroad.
One important cornerstone of internationalization was established through implementing the Erasmus+ Program at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences. The Erasmus Charter for Higher Education has provided the framework for the development of new partnerships as well as improving the quality of long term partnerships.
Over 80 Interinstitutional Agreements, many of which are interdisciplinary and organized across departments, lay the groundwork for professors, staff and students to actively shape the implementation of Erasmus+. Especially partnerships with universities in Poland, the UK and Denmark provided our students with vast opportunities in for their mobility. In regard to diversification as well as pluralization of mobility opportunities it needs should be noted that partners from over 25 countries have admitted our students or staff to their programs.
Student Mobilities for studies are at the heart of our Erasmus+ Program. They provide our students with a good course load at our partner universities and result in the recognition of the respective credits. Next to the actual course contents they provide students with a variety of valuable experiences.
Student Mobilities for traineeships are provided through the Leonardo Office as a best practice consortium in Magdeburg. Through mutual information sessions as well as joint presentations we provide students with the best expertise in regards to their planned mobility.
Staff Training and Teaching Assignments go hand in hand in order to further international partnerships. They enhance the necessary environment for student exchange, recognition processes, co-education and project work. Most of all they represent an important opportunity for our staff and professors to broaden their professional knowledge and gain intercultural as well as language competences.
Anhalt University offers seven English-taught master programs. They are very attractive to our exchange students because of the low language barrier. Nevertheless, Bachelor students represent an essential part of our incoming students. In order to realize incoming mobilities within the German taught study programs Anhalt University relies on project work in order to create added value in regard of combining research and course work. Individualized support and supervision are provided through the language center as well as teaching staff. This highly inclusive approach has been welcomed by students. It provides an increase of group teaching which uses intercultural synergies to boost educational objectives in accordance to the idea of “United in diversity”.
Every mobility whether incoming or outgoing clearly proves the added value of the Erasmus+ Program, because each one presents a new point of view. Next to professional qualifications especially transfer competences and intercultural competences broaden the development of Erasmus participants. The exposure to administrative processes of the Erasmus+ program provides an increase of knowledge for mobile European citizen that represent an ideal preparation for their professional life.
Overall the Erasmus+ program proves to be a guiding principle and impetus for change in regard to European exchange for Anhalt University. The ECHE as well as the interinstitutional Agreements provide the necessary background for this process of internationalization.
