In accordance with our mission statement "TUHH is a competitive entrepreneurial university focussing on high-level performance and high quality standards. TUHH is dedicated to the principles of Humboldt (unity of research and education). TUHH has a strong international orientation and also focusses on its local environment." According to our mission, TUHH would like to offer every student the opportunity to spend part of her/his studies abroad.
Our high quality standars are reflected in the choice of our partners, but at the same time they set the obstacles that have to be overcome when recognition is concerned.
As could be read in our ERASMUS policy statement one of our goals in ERASMUS+ was the change from mere quantitative improvement in exchanges to more quality. We were able to achieve this goal whithout lowering the figures. We set stronger central rules to standardize forms and procedures we achieved a higher grade of recognition without loosening our quality standards.
We managed to keep our historical focus on Scandinavia and the baltic area and still offer a broad number of possibilites all over Europe to cover the specific needs of our diverse student population.
The knowledge triangle of higher education, research and industry - everyday life for universities of technology – found its first entrance into ERASMUS+ as we introduced ERASMUS internships for the first time under our own roof. Success was much higher than in the consortium which handled internships for Hamburg Universities before. Started from scratch we even realized more internships than anticipated in our modest application.
Diversification of participants could successfully be improved, especially if we look at the students who have a migration background. In addition we attract mainly female students with our mobility actions. The percentage of female students at the university is 25, which is in the typical range of a university of technology. Among mobile students in ERASMUS they represent 50 % though.
Within STT we conducted exclusively targeted job shadowing at partner universities. Either there were already existing contacts on specific topics or STT has given rise to extend and initiate cooperation in administrative departments through already existing research contacts. All 3 staff mobilities for training have brought forth results that have been incorporated into ongoing projects at TUHH. In most cases there is a follow-up on the matter. The successful dissemination of results as well as planned return visits are distinct markers of quality intensification with STT.
