Higher education student and staff mobility project
Start date: Jun 1, 2014, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The Biotechnical Educational Centre Ljubljana - BIC Ljubljana is a public institution offering secondary, short-term tertiary and continuing education and research. Our two-years long higher education programs in Food Technology and Nutrition and Hospitality and Tourism focus on development of practical skills, based on a sound theoretical knowledge. To be able to do this, we need to form strong, quality, bi-lateral partnerships with practical training providers (companies in Slovenia and abroad). This Erasmus + project 2014 enabled us to organise quality practical training for our students and staff abroad. Four students of the above mentioned education programs spent 2-3 months abroad at practical training, gaining quality practical experience which was later recognised at the home institution BIC Ljubljana (adequate credit points were earned after passing the exam for Practical Training (obligatory subject)). Three students were on practical trainig in Austria through Austrian Farmers’ Education & Training Community, Tainach, Carinthia (http://kisnet.me/) – the partnership of BIC Ljubljana with Austrian Farmers’ Education & Training Community is a result of the long-term across-border co-operation. One student did her practical training in the Hospitality and Tourism sector in Spain – the traineeship providers (hotels) are quality-checked in cooperation with Animafest agency (the partnership of BIC Ljubljana and Animafest is also a result of the long-term across-border co-operation). All the students received a highly positive evaluation feedback by their mentors abroad. The week-long mobility (for training) of five staff members from BIC Ljubljana to KEUDA (Finland) resulted in a continuing co-operation between BIC Ljubljana and KEUDA in the field of vocational education: student and staff mobilities - out- and in-bound and in 2016 a joint application for a KA2 project, Strategic partnership and other projects in the future. We invited an expert from Spain (on staff mobility for teaching) to delivered lessons and a practical session to our students in Octobre 2014. We also used the 3rd international professional conference, Trends & Challenges in Food Technology, Nutrition, Hospitality and Tourism in October 2014 (which is organized by BIC Ljubljana every two years) to present our co-operation (in the field of higher and vocational education) with him to other professionals from Slovenia and abroad. We strengthened our links with different European partners. We enabled our students and staff to gain an exceptional experience which consequently benefited the entire Biotechnical Educational Centre Ljubljana and even wider. Via the international conference the benefits extended to other Slovenian and foreign professionals. Another benefactor are (mostly Slovenian) companies in which our students have been starting their work (practical training) and to which they’re bringing their European experience gained in this project.
