Over the last few years, the University of Art and Design Linz has developed an international network which serves as the foundation for its internationalization strategy. This network allows the university?s teaching as well as its artistic and research projects to enhance their image and position themselves internationally. The aim is to make the University of Art and Design Linz more attractive for people from all over the world to study, research, teach and ? ultimately ? to stay. The Erasmus+-programme has established itself as an important means of internationalization. Through the Erasmus+ programme, the University of Art and Design Linz promotes the mobility of individuals. Incoming students and teachers are a key component of internationalizing the university. Through them the university comes alive and becomes more interesting ? also for those who cannot take part in the mobility programme themselves. The Erasmus coordinator assists incoming students right from the start. Information materials like fact sheets, student information as well as a pre-registration guideline are sent to partner universities and incoming students. At the beginning of each semester, there are welcome meetings and orientation day(s) which give incoming students a quick insight and introduction to university life. A welcome dinner and the free ?German as a Foreign Language? course, including an excursion in the surrounding area of Linz, are also part of the offerings for incoming students. Most of the teaching takes place at the University of Art and Design Linz, which means that most incoming students are presented with an ideal environment in which to work, with their own workstation in a studio at the university. The International Office of the ÖH (Austrian Students? Union) at the university has put together an information brochure for incoming and international students and has set up a mentoring programme for the individual students. Additional courses held in English as well as the organization and promotion of conferences held in English has expanded the offerings for incoming students and created opportunities for an ?internationalization at home.? Outgoing students who have already returned are put in contact with the incoming students from the respective partner university. In general, personal and individual contact is an important part of the welcoming culture at the University of Art and Design Linz. Universities of the arts have a special status in the application procedure because the partner universities get to decide on which students they admit. The decision is based on the portfolio put together by the students. This portfolio provides and guarantees both the home university as well as the partner university with the most important and meaningful information. The Student Exchange Office provides outgoing students with intensive advising to help them choose the right university. Through a call students are invited to apply for a place at one of the partner universities. In personal advising sessions, the Erasmus coordinator checks to see if the applicant fulfils the Erasmus+ requirements and provides the student with information on the partner universities. If the required language for the outgoing student is not available through the Online Linguistic Support, preparatory language courses in Austria and abroad will be funded in part or in full. In terms of teacher mobility, long-term co-operations are our main aim. Over the last few years, the University of Art and Design Linz has endeavored to encourage and increase mobility, particularly among the academic staff. Once a year, a university-wide call invites teachers to take advantage of mobility opportunities. Mobility options not covered by the Erasmus Staff Mobility programme are funded by the University of Art and Design Linz. There has been a significant increase in these mobilities over the last few years.
