Higher education student and staff mobility project
Start date: Jun 1, 2014, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project “Educational mobility in the sector of Higher Education” was carried out at the Eugeniusz Piasecki University School of Higher Education in Poznań from the 1st of June 2014 to the 30th of May 2016. According to the original agreement the Beneficiary was to organise mobility for 83 University students and staff. In the two consecutive intermediate reports the declared number of mobilities increased from 83 to 123 people. This was caused by a growing interest in student and staff exchange during the project. Finally the number of exchanges was 119 (that is 43.37% more than originally assumed). The University provides comprehensive services for the mobility process, both for outgoing and incoming students; the unit which undertakes all tasks in this area is the International Relations Office. The Poznań University of Physical Education makes every effort in order to implement the objectives specified in the ECHE and in the financial agreement signed with the National Agency. Due to the scope of the internationalisation policy selected by the University its implementation has been planned for and will be implemented in the period of a few years of ECHE validity. In the 2014-15 academic year the University focused on improving English language skills of students and staff. Free language courses have been offered to improve the communication skills and extend the specialist vocabulary, in particular in the area of physiotherapy, sport and physical education. As part of the physiotherapy course there is a module system of classes in foreign language, including mainly clinical practice in outpatient clinics and hospital wards. Moreover, a Portuguese course with introduction to life and institutions of the country has been organised for outgoing students heading to Portugal. Taking into account the opinions of students, who beside poor knowledge of the language, indicated financial issues as reasons not to take part in the mobility programme, on the University’s list of partner institutions the largest number of institutions are from the second and third financing groups. The participation of the University in the POWER operating programme provides grants that enable students from less well-off backgrounds with a lower cultural capital to take part in the mobility programme. The University ensures equal treatment of local students and staff and incoming mobility programme participants in terms of academic requirements and other services provided. The Poznan University of Physical Education supports the acquisition of cultural competences by outgoing students and integration of incoming students, both within their group and with Polish students, using also the specific character of a sport university (offers of joint physical activities, trips as a practical implementation of cultural tourism). The principle of non-discrimination of incoming students is implemented through giving them the same programme requirements as in case of Polish students, while providing them with necessary knowledge about cultural determinants, as well as social and economic reality in Poland. Outgoing students receive support also in selection of courses taken during the mobility, thanks to which obtaining semester/year credits in the home faculty after returning does not cause any problems. The University carries out a consistent information campaign promoting student and staff mobility programme, using all available communication channels: the Internet, social and traditional media, and, of course, direct contacts. Growing indicators of internationalisation are not only something to be proud of, but they are also a bargaining chip in negotiations with partners from the city and the region and an advantage in planning new research projects. The International Relations Office has successfully built a team of people involved in the mobility programme: faculty co-ordinators, a growing group of teachers, buddy partners and ambassadors who have taken part in foreign exchange; this, together with developed procedures and regulations, makes it possible to plan further activities with optimism and put to good use the achieved outcomes of mobility programme: an increase in professional and language competences, enhancing our educational offer and a more diverse cultural experience of the University’s community.
