In the framework of the Erasmus+ Programme, Piraeus University of Applied Sciences (former Technological Educational Institute of Piraeus, Erasmus code G EGALEO01) was awarded the Grant - no. 2014-1-EL01-KA103-000059- for Higher Education Student and Staff Mobility (KA1) for the academic year 2014-2015 for a total duration of 16 months.
The ?bjectives of the University are a) the continuous improvement of education and services to all participants in the Erasmus+ Programme (inbound, outbound students, inbound and outbound staff) b) the increase of the number of courses taught in English c) the encouragement of inbound students to attend free of charge modern Greek language courses d) the increase of students' mobility number for studies and traineeships while giving the necessary encouragement and support to students from disadvantaged backgrounds and students with special needs e) the increase of the teachers' number participating in the teaching mobility.
The total number of participants planned in the grant agreement, were fifty-three: 29 students for studies, 8 for traineeships, 12 staff members for teaching and 4 for training.
The mobilities that took place were 22 for studies, 13 for Traineeships, 12 for teaching and 6 for training. There was a decrease in the number of student mobility due to economic reasons that stem from the crisis in the country. At the same time, there was an increase in the number of student mobility for traineeships. Moreover, there were 7 additional students for traineeships whose mobility was carried out by the Consortiums where our University participates as a member. Six students carried out their traineeship through TEI of Athens Consortium and one through Panteion University Consortium for Erasmus+ Placement (mobilities not included in the original Grant Agreement). Therefore, the total number of participants of PUAS in the Erasmus+ Programme were 60 (increase by 13% from the initial proposal).
Regarding the participants? profile two students from disadvantaged backgrounds and one student with special needs took part in the student mobility for studies.
Meetings took place in order to inform inbound students in academic, administrative matters as well as for the exchange of academic and cultural experiences. For outbound students events were held with the aim of informing about the general principles of the ERASMUS+ programme, the application and selection procedures, the problems as well as the prospects presented by participating in the programme. Students that had already participated in the ERASMUS+ programme presented their experiences and using skype there was an interaction with students already abroad (http://teipireuofficegr.blogspot.gr/2014/08/blog-post_21.html).
Greek language courses were offered free of charge to inbound students helping them familiarise with the University?s community and the Greek way of life (http:/teipireuoffice.blogspot.gr/2014/11/modern-greek-language-courses- winter.html).
The PUAS Office of European Programmes implementing the Erasmus+ is in constant cooperation with ESN Student Association providing support in organizing cultural events and actions aimed at integrating the inbound students into the Greek culture (http://esn.teipir.gr/). Dissemination of the experiences and the outcomes of the Programme is ensured by the events that are planned aiming at the whole academic community (http://teipireuofficegr.blogspot.gr/2014/08/blog-post_21.html).
Our University's strategy focuses on deepening the cooperation with partners, with whom there is already successful partnership (regarding the students and staff mobility), submitting joint research proposals and attempting at establishing common courses for both beneficiaries.
