Start date: Jun 1, 2014, End date: Sep 30, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

Scuola Superiore per Interpreti e Traduttori (SSML) Carlo Bo has its offices in five places in Italy (Milan, Bologna, Florence, Rome and Bari), offers Degrees in Linguistic Mediation, Interpreting and Translation in English, French, Spanish and German, and has been part of the Erasmus program for fifteen years. SSML Carlo Bo has always been promoting the value of knowledge elaboration and transferred it to a level of international excellence, through the study of foreign languages in order to stimulate the integration at a European level. Since it was founded in 1960, SSML Carlo Bo has been very active in the integration field and in spreading United Europe values, through languages, translation and interpretation. Thanks to the Erasmus program, SSML Carlo Bo has managed to implement its already long path of promotion of equal opportunities in the national and European business world. The number of the participants in SSML Carlo Bo is quite low, more or less are eleven the ones who go on mobility for studying, and two for trainership. In these last years the numbers have increased and we expect them to improve. The majority of them is female (80%). This number reflects the balance in the presence of female students inside the School. As every student is enrolled in Linguistic Mediation, Interpreting and Translation, they all have an advance knowledge of English and another one between French, German and Spanish. All the Erasmus participants are attending the third year of Linguistic Mediation Science and the mobility is promoted above all in the first semester. The main goal of the Erasmus program in SSML Carlo Bo is offering always more opportunities to the students in a process of internationalization of their university career path and of their cultural integration, in order to spread knowledge while understanding the European reality. For SSMLC Carlo Bo, Erasmus represents a very focal point in the internationalization process, giving the opportunity to establish relations, strategic and scientific agreements to develop linguistic mediation science and cross cultural communication. Our offer consist in mobility for incoming and outgoing students and for the trainership. The process was undertaken in order to offer the chance to improve themselves in the linguistic mediation sector, through the direct comparison with different realities, for an equal development of their study career, offering experiences that can be used also in their professional life. In particular, in the field of languages, interpretation and translation, Erasmus experience represent an upgrade point to get a real specialization, being in touch with mother tongue people and different didactic methods. The program now is uptodate after a process that has involved an improvement in the procedures, the spreading of the objectives and the vision of the programme, the network among former and future students, a profiled counseling by Erasmus coordination, so that everybody can have a complete and full immersion in the project. The impact on students and on the Institute has led to an improvement in the didactic path and in the dialogue among all the people involved, offering goals that go beyond the single course or exam, but aim at a more broad reorganization process of the single career in line with the UE principles. The results were a better preparation of the students, with a conscience that brought them in contact with different cultures and ideas, a comparison on the disciplines linked to interpretation and translation, the starting of a future career abroad and a better connection between student and Institute. Beside that, the possibility to make active agreements with Universities and firms abroad allowed an improvement of the internal procedures, the development of a welcome service and the enhancement of the competence of teachers and staff. In the end, even if in minor quantity, welcoming student groups from abroad allowed us to find always new best practices to promote integration in all the offices of SSML Carlo Bo.
