FINISHED
Context and background of the project: IES San Vicente has been deploying student mobility training activities since the 2009-2010 grade. During these years the students of the institution have been practicing in companies from Ireland, UK, France, Poland and Italy. The professional families of the students who accomplished the training period were Computing and ICT and Accounting and Managing. Also, some staff of the Faculty has participated in mobility and organization in programs developed from the same institution or from other educational organizations. More than 50 actors concerning IES San Vicente, have been involved in training mobility from the last 6 years in a row.
During the last years some contacts with different Irish tech companies have been established and settled, therefore all the 2014-2015 program mobility took place in this country. Besides, our students and firms technological profile, where the placements were performed, made possible that other students who accomplished the placements years before, become employees of some companies abroad, letting the organization to have better contacts and mobility background with the Irish companies.
Aims: One of the most important goals of the project is to settle down this sort of actions at the institutions, providing an added value to the Training in the Workplace module and for the educational project in general. Students and staff mobility has helped to achieve some of the Erasmus Program targets, but each year new circumstances and challenges show up, introducing dynamism to all the activities performed.
Youth employability is one of the success of the program for the last editions, that also happened during the 2014-2015 mobility, among them, worth to say that one of our students was hired by Cisco Systems, in addition to another cases of employment.
We have also noticed that all the participants improved their English level, both students and staff. A new Erasmus atmosphere spreads over the organization promoting future experiences in students mobility and job shadowing, or any other option, for staff.
We have realized that some entrepreneurial activities were motivated after the placements. One of the students who participated in a placement in Dublin was awarded in a Start-Ups contest, being hired after this by a national company.
Number and profile of the participants: 5 students performed the training mobility, one of them with zero grant. The five students were Software Developers, with the Computing Studies Degree. Three of them were in the full time course within the institution and the other two were undertaking the blended studies. The five students were granted because of their language and technical skills.
Two lecturers did the training activity. They opted for a job shadowing, letting them to observe high standard technologies in Irish companies, to apply it in the forthcoming syllabus. The two lecturers are also tutors, a fact that allowed them to compare the educative systems and methodology regarding the practice period in companies in Ireland.
Activities: The 5 students were picked under a recruitment process out of 15 total amount of students. The skills to test were English, academic files, tutor grading and personal motivation.
The lectures were elected because they are running these mobility programs and also for their tutoring activity.
The five students were placed in 3 different companies, deploying software developing projects, desktop applications and web-based applications.
The lectures were in two different companies, in Dublin and Galway. They could understand closely the company environment and the apprenticeships program developed in the same companies.
Results, impact and benefits: One of the consequences regarding the project is that we can apply again and do more student and staff mobility during the current course. The students renew with their enthusiasm and motivation this kind of activities, always supported by the former students, who by their success, diffusion and cooperation, allow to create good expectations in the organization. In addition, the interest of the Faculty in participating in staff mobility, contribute in the internationalization of the educational center.
All these mobility actions contribute to accomplish the Erasmus program objectives.
