The CIPFP Misericordia is a Vocational Training School attached to the Valencian regional government and proposed for qualification as National Reference Center in the professional family of Administration and Management. Since the 2009-2010 academic year, CIPFP Misericordia has participated in projects for student mobility for traineeships under the Erasmus program (PAP and Erasmus).
The aim is to improve the employability of the students, providing them with more and better skills related to communication skills, especially in a second language, teamwork, taking advantage of diversity, promotion of entrepreneurship, the ability to respond to unforeseen situations, contact with companies with a high level of innovation and flexibility, coping with real situations, and integration of the cultural and social diversity.
These objectives are consistent with those described in the strategic documents of the Centre, both short-term (annual plan of action), and in the medium and long term (functional project).
The profile of the participating students is that of a young student, but increasingly more people between 25 and 35 are incorporated, with a good level of foreign language, a medium to high marks, good social skills and professional initiative. The relatively small number of mobilities that are granted and awarded still prevents many students from participating in the program, as they only allow 0.25% of students in higher education to benefit from it.
The student mobility for traineeship program is integrated over a period of approximately three months, a company participating in the activities (knowing the real problems of the users or customers, seeking innovative solutions, knowing the culture and objectives business, improving processes, changing attitudes ...) related to studies in which it is registered. This period is organized through agreements between the student, the host company and the Center of origin so that the objectives, activities, conditions and obligations of the three parties are clarified, which allows that such practices are officially recognized as credits to complete the curriculum and obtain the title after the student's return.
Throughout the program, the Centre has made mobilities with companies from eleven European countries.
Despite the relatively small number of mobilities, positive consequences for the Center are remarkable, because this program has allowed certain good practices to extend its regular operation, and expand international contacts to a large number of innovative projects.
In relation to the impact the project has had on students, we would remark that of an improvement in employability. A high percentage of them are working as, from traineeships in other countries, they have imported different ways of doing things and have successfully incorporated the lines of action of the companies where they are working now. Contact with cultures, languages and different societies provide them with greater flexibility in their ability to cope with potentially stressful situations.
As for the teachers, who also participate in training placements in enterprises or in schools from other European countries, the impact is also visible, because it also creates contacts and relationships that extend to various programs, activities and spaces of knowledge.
Regarding the negative impact, we must mention the administrative, legal and technical complexity of this program, the increasing specialization and growing investment in working hours, with no endorsement by the community, state or autonomous administration.
