Ruhr West University of Applied Sciences was founded in 2009 and has participated in the Erasmus Programme since the Academic Year 2012 / 2013. As a newly founded institution, Ruhr West established an internationalization strategy which focusses on developing partnerships with Higher Education Institutions in Europe and on student mobility opportunities for study semesters. With increasing student numbers and more students who have reached their third year of study, the interest of students as well as teaching staff in the Erasmus Programme is increasing as well. The Erasmus Programme of the European Union is an important instrument for the mobility of our students, the international network and the strategic development of internationalization at HRW. As a university of applied sciences in the Ruhr region with a very diverse population, HRW promotes the Eramus programme specifically to support mobility of students from families with migration background.
Through the Erasmus programme, HRW aims at increasing the total number of mobile students, particularly also for study-related internships, and to newly develop and strengthen partnerships with European universities. During this grant period, HRW was able to fund 23 participants, among them for the first time two students for training mobility and four academic staff for teaching mobility at partner universities. The teaching visits particularly served to consolidate and strengthen the partnerships. The majority of the mobile students are enrolled in study programmes in business administration or a combination of engineering and business. A significant number of students with Turkish family background used the programme for a study semester in Turkey.
