Harmonic Sounds- Ahenkli Tınılar
Start date: Feb 2, 2014,

“Harmonic Sounds” is a project aiming to bring Italian and Turkish people together by using music as a medium. We share the sameregion, the Mediterranean Region, and this is the starting point of our project. The Project will take place in a period of 5 months. Inthe first 2 months, we will prepare for the activities, in which the Turkish and Italian participants are supposed to collect data aboutthe stereotypes about both countries in their respective communities. The project is planned to be totally 20 youth workers on theproject (9+1 for each country). The most important part of the Project will be the public concert. The concert will draw many localpeople’s attention and is a really good area for giving good and effective messages. During the Project, we will use non-formaleducation methods and organize workshops for decreasing the cultural prejudices and overcoming stereotyping.EU's powers have expanded to include action against discrimination on grounds of racial or ethnic origin, religion or belief, disability, age or sexual orientation. Italy has been amongst the countries that supported Turkey in terms of EU membership. This supportseems to continuo. The public opinion on the membership is negative. The underlying reasons for view are religious and identitymatters. The barrier between Italy and Turkey to form constructive platform of debate is formed by the lack of core knowledge, prejudices and misperceptions. For these concerning facts, we would like to decrease cultural stereotypes and misunderstandingbetween Italian and Turkish people by making our project "Harmonic Sounds".At the end of the Project, the participants are expected to spread knowledge and skills they have developed through these activities. Our organization, Icel Handcrafts and Education Foundation, will make sure that this Project will have an impact on the youth anddeveloping cultural understanding between Italian and Turkish people.
