Guide to linguistic competence for tourist guides and tour leaders
Start date: Sep 1, 2014, End date: Aug 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Multilingualism is one of the main pillars of the vision of the European Union from the perspective of 2020. The basic assumptions and policies of the European Commission indicate that all of us should work towards adapting language contents to the nature of learning group. Tourists guides are professional group which in terms of knowledge of foreign languages definitely does not meet expectations. Only 25% of tourist guides throughout Europe speak a foreign language in their professional life. This is primarily caused by the lack of time to learn the language, the inadequacy of the existing range of languages to the nature of work of tourist guides, and because there is no offer of a dedicated course for this target group. The partnership has been built based on the principle of complementary skills and experience among partners. As a result, we can present a mixture of different organizations (Danmar Computers - PL, Iberika - DE, Sea Teach - ES; YouNet -IT; Know and Can Association - BG and Giresun Egitimciler Dernegi - TR) united around the main objective of the project. The main aim of the project was to raise the indicator of employability among tourist guides and to improve their vocational competences by means of developing their language skills by providing precisely tailored to their needs professional m-learning courses for languages: English, German. All planned tangible and intangible outcomes were achieved. The project has large impact that can be seen mostly on the direct target groups. The main target group of GOLIC GUIDE project were Tourist Guides. These are people involved in providing assistance, information and cultural, historical and contemporary heritage interpretation to people on organized tours and individual clients at educational establishments, religious and historical sites, museums, and at venues of other significant interest. At the stage of research target group has been further elaborated and there are several profession types of a tourist guides: - Travel Guide; - Tour Manager; - City Guide; - Eco-tourism Guide; - History Tour Guide; - Extreme Tourism Guide; - Tourist Bus Guide; The target group was supported through the development of the following outcomes: O1. Comprehensive Research Report - a description of situation at hand, O2. 10 modules of language courses profiled in terms of content accurately for tourist guides, O3. Collection of good practices concerning guiding of foreign tourists with the clear definition of differences between the countries of origin of tourists, O4. The m-learning content delivery space for target group. Thanks to the above, the target group will have access to precisely profiled language courses (English, German) available on mobile devices, along with a set of best practices "how to deal with a tourist from abroad?" With respect to strengthening key competences in VET curricula GOLIC project was focused on following key competences: communication in foreign languages, digital competence, learning to learn, social and civic competences, cultural awareness and expression.
