Green STRING Transport Corridor
Start date: Nov 30, 2011, End date: Nov 29, 2014 PROJECT  FINISHED

Identify the sectors and companies which will have special growth opportunities through the establishment of a green transport corridor between Öresund and Hamburg. This will be of interest to logistics and goods transportation. To identify the physical, organisational and legal barriers limiting the full capitalisation of the value available for the business community in the Öresund Region with the establishment of the Femern Belt link. Through these goals an action plan will be developed with cross-border initiatives for the involved parties of the project and public authorities. Achievements: The railway has to be strengthened in order to be able to absorb as much as possible of the expected growth in traffic, when the fixed link across Fehmarn Belt opens in 2021. This requires action from the political decision-makers. RecommendationsA positive development of the STRING transport corridor will reinforce the international competitiveness of the STRING region and its role as a driver for smart and green growth in Sweden, for smart and green growth in Sweden, Denmark and Germany. In order to reach this far it is necessary to fulfil three basic preconditions:• The development of a joint railway strategy ensuring seamless cross-border connections between Sweden, Denmark and Denmark and Germany.• The development of a green transport corridor based on resource efficient and innovative transport solutions on road and rail.• The STRING region needs to focus on the development of smarter and greener transport and greener transport solutions in the regional clusters of logistics industry.
