GIFT - Make a present, start your future
Start date: May 1, 2016, End date: Oct 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

GIFT project consists two youth exchanges, the first one in Italy and a 2nd in Hungary in July 2016 with dissemination events the following autumn. The project was created to respond the needs of young people with fewer opportunities through involving them to innovative and engaging activities - like creating quality design gifts by eco-friendly materials - in an intercultural environment, while supporting them to learn and improve useful key competences and skills that will be crucial for them when entering the labour market. The idea is to use upcycling techniques by converting old or waste materials into useful, innovative and high quality objects. By the end of the project participants and partner organisations will have a deeper understanding of an economy based on solidarity and sustainable lifestyle, their opportunities in becoming more active citizens and agents of change, and empower others by giving examples of good practises. The project will inspire young people and their communities to become entrepreneurial in their own reach and use the skills mastered during the creative workshops.Partner organisations are from Spain, Italy and Hungary. Both exchanges will host 5 young people and 1 experienced group leader per country. Young participants are 18-25 years-old, coming from disadvantaged background or living in difficult situations (like being unemployed), willing to actively participate in the project from the preparation phrase to the dissemination events. The GIFT project uses non-formal methodologies, fitting the target group's needs. It will increase the sense of initiative, critical thinking, entrepreneurship, self-esteem, creativity reinventing and upcycling waste into useful, quality eco-design objects. It gives young people practical tools, knowledge and skills in life to reuse and create objects necessary for everyday life. It is expected that the project will contribute to participants' overall growth as a person and as a member of an international group. Participants will be able to gain an understanding of the various situation that other youngsters face in different cultures and countries, learn how to cope with new situations and develop a more sustainable and eco-friendly life-style. The participants themselves will act as multipliers bringing back the learning experience to their local communities and capitalizing on experience. They will develop and improve key competences such as communication and social competences, digital competences, foreign language competences. The project will serve as an example in youth work with disadvantaged youngsters in all partner organisations’ countries and strengthen international cooperation between youth organisations in Europe.
