This EVS project consisted of two mobilities of two volunteers from Italy and France, who stayed in Santander for 8 months.
The main activity was supporting the Programme of Free Time Activities in the host organization AMPROS, which offers a wide range of activities, adapted to different needs of support of people with intellectual disabilities and which pursues to normalize and include those people in the society, facilitating their autonomy in time management, according to their abilities and fostering their capacities.
AMPROS runs their own volunteering programme, which involves local people. The two international volunteers, together with local volunteers, accompany the target group in the daily programmed free time activities and help to organize specific activities preparing decorations and materials, planning and carrying out specific activities.
The two volunteers supported the users in such activities as: batuka, Wii, computer/internet room, chillout, board games, dances, physical exercise, competitions, sports, handycrafts and cooking workshops, etc., which set their goals always according to the profile of each user (age, needs of support, preferences, etc.)…
As far as specific activities are concerned, we can mention: Halloween, Winter Festival, Christmass, Saint Valentine’s Day, Easter one week activity in Benidorm, sports events celebrations of The Day of Cantabria or Carnival, training events for volunteers and other activities carried out by AMPROS (like the Training Course for Group Leaders).
Apart from that volunteers also participated in different activities carried out by Asociación Ser Joven (coordinating organization) and their partners in Cantabria, like for example the Celebration of 20th Anniversary of EVS in Cantabria. The participation of international volunteers with different cultures, will bring issues like cultural diversity, European Union, and active participation closer to local youth.
