Generation 2020: The future of Europe in the eyes of young people
Start date: Mar 1, 2016, End date: Jul 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Junta de Freguesia da Guarda is a public organization that was born in 2013 with the aggregation of the three biggest freguesias (regional divisions) of the city of Guarda. With a concern with the social and educational issues as well as the youth and the elderly, it tries to comply with the interests and necessities of its citizens. We wish to carry out this project because we consider that it will be valuable to our region and neighbor countries. The project, “Generation 2020: The future of Europe in the eyes of young people”, was born of a will to organize a meeting with the Youth of today and the current “policy makers”, and talk about a subject that is becoming a social concern. If approved, it would be implemented in May.We intend to organize an Iberian Seminar of experiences and skills, where new partnerships, projects and synergies will be built between Spanish and Portuguese youth and their respective policy makers serving in public bodies, focusing on the following corner stones: activism, Youth participation and European citizenship. The project will have non-formal education as its basis for knowledge transmission and will have the purpose of achieving the following goals:- Encourage active job search for young people;- Strengthen active citizenship among young people, globally, and in particular their European citizenship;- Boost and encourage solidarity and tolerance, in order to strengthen social cohesion and understanding among young people;- Help improve the quality of support systems for youth activities and strengthen the capacity of civil society organizations for the youth;- Encourage the civic participation of young people, promoting democracy based on freedom of speech;- Establish a series of strong partnerships of a common civic project at the European level;- Building a solid network of partnerships during the project, creating and promoting after its ending, a set of activities for each partner organization (seminar or conference). The group of participants of EUROYOUTH2020 will be composed of 30 young people between the ages of 18 and 30, with different academic backgrounds. They are clearly motivated to dialogue with policy makers, showing a willingness to reach consensus to help create a better society for everyone. It is intended with this project that young people have a more active, proactive and positive attitude towards seeking work; that they acquire knowledge in the areas of employment, self-employment and social entrepreneurship; that they develop a more active sense of citizenship, promote inclusion and social and cultural dialogue and engage in voluntary association; that words such as creativity, innovation and sustainability be part of their day-to-day.Each partner plays a vital role in the selection of participants and the coordination of activities before and after the Seminar. They will all have an active participation throughout the three days of the project and we hope they take the subjects there discussed to other instances in the near future. We aim that, at the end of this seminar, it is possible to elaborate a brochure of conclusions and recommendations for policy makers, businesses and organizations; that a kind of "SWOT analysis" matrix is produced. It is also intended that a video with key moments of the seminar be created, which would be translated into a number of languages in order to reach a larger amount of young people, policy makers and countries that were not involved. Also, we wish to create an Iberian blog, which would contain all the conclusions of the seminar and be continuously updated by all the partners. In short, we want not only to create projects for the sake of the projects themselves; we also seek that a sharing of information and experiences happens through the course of this project. And since each organization involved will be responsible for the transmission of that knowledge in the future, we hope it will generate a learning process that extends to other local or international partners.
