French in Farndon
Start date: Sep 5, 2016, End date: Sep 4, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

Farndon Primary School is a one form entry rural school on the outskirts of the historical city of Chester, in the NW of England. It caters for children aged 3 -11 and benefits from an on site before and after school club and a school-run Nursery. There are 217 pupils and 34 members of staff. We are extremely proud of our school and the way that everyone works together to create such a warm and caring environment and a happy place to learn. We believe that education should be an exciting journey and our aim is that every child leaves our school with a love of learning that will remain with them throughout their lives. From September 2015, MFL became a focus on the school development plan and following an audit, a shortfall of staff confidence and expertise was identified. We decided to apply for funding through the Erasmus+ Programme to help us fulfill the requirements of the new curriculum. Participating in this project, will further enhance our thematic curriculum and help to develop positive attitudes to foreign language and enhance intercultural awareness. Eight members of staff will participate in the Erasmus+ programme and attend immersion courses in France over a two year period, provided by PQ France. We envisage the expected impact to be far reaching.- MFL lead will have a clear rational for the subject within school, supporting colleagues, implementing a curriculum that is both engaging and clearly shows a progression of the skills.- Staff will have increased knowledge, skills and confidence in the teaching of French within their classrooms.- Colleagues will have received quality professional development through effective and well planned dissemination from participants. They will have access to relevant and quality resources and the use of a comprehensive curriculum.- Pupils will benefit from this project as our school encompasses a European dimension to its themed based topics. - Pupils will have skilled, enthusiastic staff teaching them French, enabling them to develop their skills in all four areas of the new curriculum. - We will be involved in a network of like -minded schools, sharing ideas, resources and good practice through regular meetings. - In global learning twilights, the benefit of participating in the Erasmus project, adding a European dimension to our curriculum, can be shared with our partner school. We see this, our first Erasmus+ project as a springboard for future links with France, partnership projects and possible pupil exchanges.
