Our school primarily focuses on teaching foreign languages. Excellent results at foreign language contests, very good results in school-leaving examinations in English, French and Spanish, as well as a high number of students who successfully pass supplementary language courses (FCE, CAE, CPE, Delf) underscore that our goal has been achieved in the last few years. It is the school’s intention to continuously augment this high level of education. Therefore, it is vital to support teachers who would like to strengthen their C2 language competence level. Furthermore, teachers who have not been teaching a foreign language at secondary level II for some time should be offered the opportunity to regain the C2 language competence level through foreign language training courses abroad. Moreover, English as a scientific language will gain stronger influence in other school subjects, as these may, for example, be fully or partly taught in English (bilingual education). The one-year project “foreign language initiative“, which is attended by eleven teachers taking part in a language course, constitutes a first step towards enhancing competences in lessons taught in a foreign language. Teachers attending language courses profit from intercultural experiences, new acquaintances and innovative school materials. Moreover, these benefits strengthen the competences of the respective departments. The year after next the programme will be continued, with schools becoming partners in a bigger project in order to facilitate the exchange of teachers. In a third step the goal is to establish a partnership between two to four schools in order to also enable students to attend school in a country of foreign language.
