Formation d'enseignant pour dispenser une matière non linguistique en anglais.
Start date: Jun 1, 2016, End date: May 31, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

CONTEXT AND GOALS OF THE PROJECT:Speaking English in a professional world is getting more and more necessary. That is why some science teachers of Saint Sauveur High School would like to use English in context with their students. First the applicants need to reinforce their language skills. Besides training in England could add a cultural dimension in an educational and social perspective. These training sessions and projects are fully part of our school educational project that values experience abroad a lot.THE APPLICANTS:Four science teachers of Saint Sauveur High School want to take part in the project: one teacher in health and social science, one teacher in biology and two teachers in physics. These teachers already use English in their lessons and are regularly involved in school trips abroad. This particular motivation and experience have already enabled three of them to pass a complimentary certification to teach their subject through English and the fourth teacher is currently preparing her orals to obtain it.ACTIVITIES DESCRIPTION:The activities abroad will be organized by the British Susanne Sparrow language school, with whom we have been working for courses for students for more than ten years. In the morning, applicants will have one to one personalized English lessons in order to reinforce their language skills in reading, writing, listening and speaking. They will especially insist on specific vocabulary depending on the subject they teach.Afternoons will be devoted to observation in schools or local organizations like labs, hospitals, homes... Thus applicants will be able to see other teaching/ professional methods used by their British counterparts. They will also discover new ways to deal with common European notions and skills including cultural particularities.PROJECT MANAGEMENT:Our school already has various language projects and has been welcoming a European volunteer for more than 10 years now.In June, at a meeting, all projects are presented and discussed so as to organize the coming school year. We try to offer opportunities to our students to be able to go abroad once during their 3 years in high school. Each person in charge of a project explains it in details to the teaching staff, then on a school document and it is finally approved by the principal. The training required by the four teachers will contribute to organizing and improving other projects.Mrs Derunes (an English teacher) who is in charge of International Relations in Saint Sauveur coordinates the various trips abroad, assists teachers to contact our foreign colleagues and looks after the European volunteer to facilitate his/her integration in our school. Regarding these language courses, she will contact Susanne Sparrow language School and organize the TOEIC exam that the applicants will take in Saint Sauveur High School after their training.IMPACT AND EXPECTED POSITIVE RESULTS:Amongst these projects, the applicants are today involved in an exchange with Ireland (European students - aged 15), the trip to London for social science students (aged 17 - 18), the exchange to Penrith (European students - aged 17 - 18), the European Youth Parliament for European students (aged 16) and a trip focusing on geology in Crozon (students aged 17 - 18).This training is to improve these various projects so that students get more involved before and after the trips using as much English as possible. The aim is also to develop their cultural and European dimension. The regular contacts with our foreign partners through more frequent interpersonal relations is a key to make these projects last. After this intensive training for the four teachers, our school will be able to offer a valuable "European mention" (at the French exam: Baccalauréat) to students studying science. So they will be able to do their oral exam in biology or physics through English. This special "mention" will be an asset for the students in their future studies and careers.
