Forest for Future
Start date: Jul 1, 2014, End date: Jun 30, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

The sending partner in the proposed project is the Secondary Forestry School in Banská Štiavnica (contractor and coordinator). The receiving partners are vocational training institutions in the natural resources sector in The Czech Republic, Finland, Slovenia, Sweden, Spain. Main objectives are to encourage the students at vocational training institutions to carry out their practical training abroad. Many organisations in the field of natural resources have been internationalized and require updated information, international knowledge and experience from their future employees. To expand our international network, to be acquainted in European standards for forestry, to increase networking of training institutions and working life and to strengthen the relations of the sending national partner institutions. To increase the students' social, communication and teamwork skills, to activate their foreign language skills, to heighten the self-esteem of young students, to increase their knowledge in foreign cultures and make them reflect upon their own culture in the common European community. During the project the students will learn about the general and vocational training system in the receiving country, widen their professional views, diversify their professional practices and get opportunities and material for making constructive comparisons due to different geographical, environmental and working conditions. This experience benefit the individual student's studies and personal life and improve his/her opportunities in the future working life. A heightened self-esteem of a young student reinforces his motivation and the increased knowledge in foreign cultures and awareness of his/her own culture strengthen the student's personal identity and help the student to deal with foreign customers and visitors in his/her future job. The increased networking of training institutions and working life develops the training needs on a concrete basis, directs and guides the actual teaching contents, and focuses the instruction at the training institutions on the right points and ventilates fixed practices and attitudes at the work places. The participants of this project are 10 students of 4-year Secondary Forestry School. The school emphasizes especially the practical character of professional training of the students, while putting an unambiguous stress on the development of their intellectual skills. These students need a wider professional view, communication and team work skills, knowledge of foreign cultures, better self-esteem, tolerance and active skills of foreign languages in order to better cope with the increasing requirements and challenges of the future working life. For work-based learning periods abroad we prefer the 3rd and 4th-year students, whose knowledge is high enough for completing given technical tasks.
