Food for Thought
Start date: Feb 1, 2009,

Food for Thought is a youth exchange that took place in Torino, Italy from April 24 to May 5 2010. The aim of the project was to help youth understand each other through food, as well as to understand the importance of food in terms of consumption and traditions. The themes of the project were Art and Culture, as well Health, particularly related to food. 45 youngsters from Italy, Turkey, Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Malta, Estonia, Portugal and Slovenia participated in the project. The Youth in Action Programme grant for the project was: € 31.493,00--------------------This youth exchange aims at giving youngsters the opportunity to confront themselves about different themes concerning food, both from a cultural point of view as from the point of view of health, using food as a tool. To understand food it's not necessary to be able to communicate in English, but it's possible to communicate also in different ways. Appreciating food can help perceiving cultural diversity as a positive aspect. The importance of having gastronomic knowledge is to overcome the problem of homologating food. Unfortunately nowadays when people travel they don't know anything about the food that they can eat in the country they are visiting and we want to stimulate the youngsters to discover the traditional food in different countries. At the same time it's also important to pass on to the youth the importance of conducting a healthy life at home. The activities should help the youngsters both to know more about the backgrounds of the other countries gastronomic traditions, but also to learn from each other how to cook different meals, from different countries, in a healthy and fast way.
