Förderung interkulturellen Kompetenzerwerbs und Erfahrungsaustausch innerhalb europäischer Betriebskulturen
Start date: Jun 1, 2014, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Berufliche Schulen Kehl (BSK), a vocational school compound in Kehl, are assigned to a particular cultural engagement due to the geographical location at the border to France, neighboring the metropolitan area of Strasbourg. Entering professional life our trainees and apprentices have to face up to both specific professional requirement and challenges resulting from the vicinity to the French–German border. In their daily work the trainees regularly meet French customers, French employees as well as French suppliers. Often only limited language skills are available and inhibition levels are high. Intercultural contacts take place which have been avoided so far. A greater part of the young people had only little contact to other European countries before the beginning of their vocational training. The border to France still has an effect on people. BSK try to prepare the trainees as actively as possible for the European surrounding in their training companies. This is put into practice by relevant teaching sequences and language tuition as well as common visits to Strasbourg. In recent years getting in contact to other European countries as part of vocational schooling has not been offered to the trainees due to missing possibilities and unavailable programs. Project objective of the Erasmus + application on hand is a new departure from the border region into other European Countries on the one hand, and intensifying existing contacts to France on the other hand. To achieve these aims partnerships with institutions in further European countries are intended to be established. As a first step the involved teaching staff of the partner institutions are provided the opportunity to meet ant get acquainted with the educational system and schools of the respective country. At this stage it is planned to establish first contacts to training companies and to strengthen the cooperation team. This will be followed by a mobility scheme for the trainees who have been especially prepared considering language and culture in advance. With regard to intensifying contacts to France the trainees are supposed to gain deeper insight into French corporate culture even beyond the border region. Major objectives are adopting an open attitude towards other Europeans through a fluent use of the foreign language and more self-confidence in the direct contact with people from the host country. The trainees are to be supervised and accompanied comprehensively during their stay abroad. Activities during their work placement will be documented in the ’Europass Mobilität’ and thus become a part of the personal portfolio of the trainees. The participating staff will act as multipliers aiming at enlarging and strengthening the cooperation between trainees, teachers and companies. The reports of the trainees will be published in the local press and made publically available on the BSK homepage. Trainees and apprentices at our school who are interested in mobility schemes will be offered the opportunity to interview the participants briefly in the form of ‘speed dating’. In cooperation meetings with our partners in the dual system of vocational education the schemes and their results will be presented and discussed. Further presentation platforms will be on the open day of BSK and the careers fairs in Offenburg and Rheinau. BSK expect to gain a strengthened position among the vocational schools of the region and acknowledgement of their already existing intercultural efforts through opening further up to Europe.
