Street Music Day was first established in Vilnius, Lithuania, in 2007 and afterwards it was spread in different countries such as Belarus, Latvia, Estonia. In Georgia, Street Music Day was organized by the hosting organization Youth Association DRONI in May 19, 2012 for the first time. Afterwards it has been held as an annual festival in Tbilisi, during which local and foreign music bands and solo artists perform in the streets of the city. Feel the beat of Batumi was spreading the idea of connection of various cultures through music to this Black sea resort.
The project promoted the idea of the festival, and involved about 200 artists, mainly from Georgia, but also from foreign countries, and it gave chance to all of them to perform and to get inspired from each other. The main aim of the event was to support and encourage the street musicians, to give them more possibilities to show their talent to the people while also promoting themselves and to bring life to the public space and inspire the involved artists to do the same in their local communities.
The Youth Exchange "Feel the beat of Batumi" was supporting activity of the festival. Non-Formal education was the main method used to create a fruitful and productive cooperation. Participants had possibility to work together in international groups, share their arts and music between each-other, to have a group rehearsals during which they improved their group working skills. Also they took an active part in promoting the festival among the local community using tools like: flash mobs, social media. On the main event, Street Music Day, they performed their music in the streets in front of the local audience.
