The Explore Diversity Youth Exchange will bring together young people from the UK, Macedonia, Norway and Bulgaria aged 14-18 (21 with disabilities). Each country will bring 6 young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to stay at the Sandyholme Retreat Centre in Studland on the Isle of Purbeck. Our objectives are to deepen young people's awareness of issues of equality and diversity, particularly focusing on racism, disability, gender reassignment, sexual orientation and economic disadvantage, to develop interpersonal skills and improve employment prospects for young people. This will be achieved through non-formal peer learning and young people working together in teams. We also aim to strengthen the quality of our youth work and share this good practice locally, nationally and internationally.Activities planned include our 4 participating country presentations on aspects of diversity, discussion groups, games, celebration, exploration of the area and making new presentations using creative arts and media. These new presentations and workshops will be presented in a Conference which approximately 300 school children from across Dorset will attend, sharing in the learning and development achieved by the Youth Exchange participants. Through our Chatterboxes magazine, national and European networks, newsletters, social media and press releases the outcomes of our Youth Exchange and Conference will be shared with young people and youth workers locally, nationally and internationally.
