Exploration in International Education
Start date: Aug 1, 2011,
Five volunteers from Germany, Great Britain, Ireland, Finland and Poland live and work in Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian communties in Kosovo for 9 months, assisting local education coordinators and volunteers with the existing Learning Centers Network project in Gracanica, Fushe Kosova/Kosovo Polje, Piemetina and Shtime, and initiating new and sustainable youth-led development initiatives in partnership with local communities. By modelling activism and by working co-operatively with local youth, the volunteers 1) provide educational and animation support in the Learning Centers, 2) build the confidence and social capital of young Kosovars to be active volunteers in their communities, and 3) through youth exchange, encourage the active European citizenship of young Kosovars, and help to build new connections between young people from often isolated communities.
