PROJECT
FINISHED
As the world becomes increasingly interconnected, we are challenged more than ever before to expand our knowledge and attitudes in order to successfully participate in the emerging global community. We would like to carry out this project to be able to reach more youth through youth organizations and schools in Norway providing intercultural learning opportunities, to share our organization´s knowledge of intercultural learning. The main objectives are to offer youngsters, and adults working with them, the possibility to develop their intercultural skills and awareness of global issues, being global citizens. People of all ages interact with different cultures, and both in the labour market and society in general is there an increasing need for intercultural competenses. Having a volunteer working with the project, we would be able to reach a much larger part of our vast country. The volunteer will be an “Intercultural Learning-ambassador”, offering non-formal learning sessions focusing on intercultural understanding and development of skills needed in an interconnected world. He/she will also develop necessary material and provide young and engaged volunteers with training, so that we can reach even an even larger part of the population. For this specific project, we are looking for 1 volunteer with some knowledge of intercultural learning and non-formal education. He/she should be somewhat experienced with giving trainings, and comfortable with speaking to/interacting with both a smaller or larger audience. A obvious benefit would be a candidate that has been on some kind of school exchange and has good language knowledge. Having to reach out to potential schools and youth organizations, he/she should be flexible, independent and willing to take initiative. The volunteer will get the opportunity to get involved in various projects and activities such as: - Develop and conduct workshops/sessions for youths through schools and youth organizations- Develop and conduct training for volunteers to enable them to provide intercultural learning opportunities in their own local communities- Raising awareness of intercultural competences both within the organization and with external audiences- Daily office administration- Develop new material such as LSOs, presentations, intercultural learning activities, web pages and other communication channelsThe main activity will be conducting the workshops/sessions for youth through schools and various youth organizations. The focus will be on these sessions bein engaging, interactive and easy for the target groups to relate to - specifically when it comes to being global citizens. The organization hopes to share and mutually learn different ways of working and cultural approaches. Being used to work in an international environment, it is always interesting to share know-hows and cultures. More importantly, the volunteer will have a chance to learn new skills and contribute to the increased quality of youth exchanges. Since the important dimension of the EVS experience is an immersion in a new culture, the volunteer will have the possibility to interact with many other people that he/she will meet during his/her EVS project. The main educational objective of the project is to contribute to the EVS volunteer´s knowledge, skills and attitudes. Through such an experience we hope to contribute to the volunteer’s capacity and his/her motivation to be an active citizen. In order to ensure a close link to the local communities, the EVS volunteer will conduct activities in local communities all over Norway, reaching a large and diverse group of youths and adults. Through the project, the volunteer will also be able to have a large impact on all the people he/she interacts with conducting sessions/workshops in intercultural learning. Both youngsters and the adults working with them will have the opportunity to develop their intercultural competences, as well as getting to know AFS as an organization and what we stand for.The organization is confident that the volunteer will equally have an impact on its culture and development. The volunteer will have impact on other volunteers and staff by providing knowledge of his/her own culture, attitude and ethics to the organization. AFS Norge is looking forward to learn from the volunteers contribution. Finally - hosting a volunteer via EVS will also hopefully encourage Norwegian youth to apply for EVS volunteering and open up doors of oportunities for Norwegian youth to learn about European Citizenship and what it stands for.
