EVS in Styria

Heidenspass is working with young job-seekers, especially those, who are known as NEETs (not in employment, education or training). In the past eight years heidenspass gained a lot of experience in low-threshold employment for young people between the age of 15 to 25. Together with the youngsters Heidenspass produces and sells upcycling products in their workshop in the center of Graz/Austria. Furthermore they provide the opportunity to cook and eat together in their own kitchen. A main focus lies on helping the participants of the workshops to find a job or an apprenticeship. The EVS volunteer will be able to gain experience in low-threshold social work and get to know the reality of young people with difficult backgrounds. At the same time the volunteer will be involved in the product design and can realise own ideas. The volunteer will be hosted from 1st October 2015 to 30th June 2016. The association JUKUS – „Verein zur Förderung von Jugend, Kultur und Sport” – aims to work for and with young people especially with a migrant background and with the “energy” inherent in them. In various projects, JUKUS is working for and with adolescents and young adults between the age of 12 and 25. Also, JUKUS provides educational programs and networking opportunities regarding interculturality and sensitivity for diversity in the professional fields of social work and health management. JUKUS projects aim to further interculturality and acceptance of diversity in everyday life, as well as fostering awareness of these topics. Thus, the activities of JUKUS include organizing and hosting concerts, literature nights, movie screenings, conferences, workshops , exhibitions and is responsible of a youth center. Thus the volunteer will gain experiences both in the field of management such as helping to organize exhibitions and taking part together with the professional youth workers actively in the youth work in the youth centre. The volunteer will be hosted from 1st October 2015 to 30th September 2016. Caritas is the non-profit institution of the Catholic Church in Styria in South-East-Austria with the tasks of contributing to a situation in which people in distress experience relief and are imparted with a sense of hope and of future in their difficult situations regardless of age, gender, religion, citizenship and ethnic origins or political beliefs and independent of fault. Caritas' main goal is to help to improve living circumstances, in particular those of the poorest people in society and to find ways out of material, mental health, social, cultural and spiritual emergencies. The department of education and interculture of Caritas, where the EVS volunteer will be active, holds educational institutions for different target groups and offers support to migrants and refugees living in Austria. Within this department of education and interculture the EVS volunteer will be involved in a lot of proposed activities: Assisting trainers at leisure time and sport programs for disadvantaged children and refugee children aged between 6 to 14 years; helping children aged between 6 to 14 with their homework and participate in leisure time activities for and with them; supporting adult migrants and refugees in open learning centres according the abilities of the EVS volunteer, among other. The volunteer will be hosted from 3rd August 2015 to 31st May 2016.
