The meeting with European volunteers will open a vivid insight for the children of the Montessori kindergarden in the IBZ into concepts such as cultural differences , intercultural learning and being different . The volunteer will bring knowledge , customs, and ways of life from their home countries that can enrich life with the kids in the kindergarden and that can be an inducement to deal with these aspects of life. The children together with the volunteers and the workers of the kindergarden can experience and develop many new perspectives. Thus the European volunteers will help to bring people in and around the nursery together and make Europe stand a little closer together.
An essential component of the EFD is the non formal learning , which is also a big part of the program in the institution. The volunteers will not only have the chance to exchange cultural knowledge, but also due to the montessori pedagogics will find structures in the kindergarden, that explicitly promote a natural and non -formal learning.
The two volunteers are closely involved in the team of the kindergarten and thus take an active part in shaping the free learning process. In contact with their environment, the children make their own (learning) experiences . Since each learning-material is only available once, the children are encouraged to communicate with each other . The volunteers together with the workers accompany the children in these experiences and will be available to share personal experiences.
Depending on their interests the volunteers may also develop their own projects or provide ideas for these. In addition, they can also be included as mothertongues of a foreign language and be available for communicating in another language. This is especially interessting, since the Montessori kindergarden in the IBZ is following a bilingual concept and is working with children from different cultural backgrounds.
The Montessori kindergarten in the IBZ promotes international exchange and understanding of cultural differences , social conditions , traditions and perspectives. It allows volunteers with civic engagement to revive the idea of a European neighborhood to develop sympathies and reflect on the idea of each other. It offers an opportunity to cross-regional mobility , work experience , personal development and the acquisition of key skills through informal education.
