PROJECT

The objective of this French-led project (Ministère de l’Equipement), involving a total of 15 partners from France, Belgium, the UK and Germany, is to establish a transnational ‘action platform’ of medium-sized cities (50,000 to 250,000 inhabitants), as well as local, regional and national authorities to monitor sustainable urban development and increase the consistency of development procedures in the NWE. From Rennes to Freiburg to Norwich, EUROPOLIS brings together a well-balanced selection of medium-sized cities within ‘urban taskforces’ to develop innovative tools and novel institutional approaches, carry out city audits and investigate technical and legal and regulatory solutions regarding issues of land use management, social integration and economic development. One of the concrete outcomes of this essentially bottom-up approach will be the establishment of a permanent network for exchange between administrations, in order to bring about long-term institutional change.
