The project was a response to the challenges of training highly qualified personnel in the sector of caring elderly people with demencia. It followed from the demand for caregivers with specific knowledge and methods allowed for adequate work with people with dementia - fast growing group with specific needs.
The aim of the project was to strengthen the links between education and HEALTH A DEMAND FOR LABOUR MARKET - PROVISION OF HIGHLY SKILLED , EUROPEAN HUMAN RESOURCES FOR GROWING PERCENTAGE of people with dementia in Europe by increasing the knowledge, skills and competencies related to the professional care of an elderly person with dementia and increase the key competences (learning to learn, to communicate in a foreign language, computer, social and civic initiative and entrepreneurship, cultural competence ) in 40 participants in mobility - 32 students with specializations: occupational therapist, carer in a social welfare, elderly caregiver, caregiver medical and 8 of the staff ZCKZIU in Szczecin during the period from 01.06.2014 to 05.30.2016;
Specific objectives:
- strengthening the development and exchange between the area of formal education, informal and the world of work;
- increase IT, linguistic , social competences as well as increase European identity and cultural awareness through participation in the social and cultural life;
- increase the attractiveness of shape profession in the care of the person with dementia by obtaining international dimension and European professional horizons.
The project took into account the issues related to the different aspects of the elderly with dementia - related diseases.
MOBILITY OF STUDENTS:
In the framework of mobility performed, at a partner institution Vitalis GmbH have learned how to apply the technique of working with the biography of the patient, which helps discern in its history, the origins of possibly habits or inconsistent messages to improve communication. This technique involved getting to know the biography of the patient and making "memory box" for the patient with the most important memories - photographs, diplomas, souvenirs, etc. Box was for the carer and people from the environment "signpost" and a reference point when the memory of the events and people was seriously distorted.
Mobility in this partner was focused on first aid, too. Training has involved learning the basic steps of first aid, including injection. That was a significant addition to education and opportunities for professional caregivers, as training offered by the Ministry of programs does not contain science injection. Trainees participating in earlier mobility projects under the Leonardo da Vinci drew attention to the skill and advocated the introduction of courses the injections. After consultation with the partner organization of Dresden, it was decided that an additional first aid course competencies enriching students with skills related to first aid and performance of injection.
Mobility in Spanish institution M.E.P. EUROPROJECTS GRANADA allowed participants to extend the competences related to the shaping of space and communication with people with dementia. Students reported the need for clarification of knowledge and skills, particularly in the application of practical solutions. Hence mobility in this partner have concerned the practical training in the field of space and communicating with people with dementia.
MOBILITY OF TEACHERS
The focus on mobility was located on the transmission of knowledge, skills and attitudes in terms of maintaining and promoting mental ward welfare and social skills and communication with dementia. Mobility of staff vocational education in the Spanish partner M.E.P. EUROPROJECTS GRANADA.
By participating in the project, participants have increased knowledge, skills and professional competence. In addition, they've increased the level of key competencies: increased skills in the use of a foreign language, increased social skills and interpersonal skills, improved the skills and abilities in the use of IT tools. Participation in mobility would be an opportunity for them to test their skills in a professional environment and acquire new experience. Participants will be better prepared for entry into professional life, and especially to work with still growing group of people with dementia - with specific needs.
Vocational education staff of the West Pomeranian Centre for Vocational and Continuing Learning thanks to foreign practice have increased their skills and acquire experience in the field of education for caregivers of people with dementia. Mobility also contributed to the increase of their key competences.
