PROJECT
FINISHED
The project "European Starter" was written as an answer to identified needs and issues reported by the teachers of Janusz Korczak Primary School No 61 in Wrocław. Those issues were the main reason why the teachers weren't willing to cooperate with schools in other European countries. Such situation, in a long distance, may lead to "European exclusion". The main barrier is a very poor knownledge of English, which makes impossible the effective use of the Internet and engagement in international cooperation. All these methods of work could contribute to upgrading the quality of work, especially in terms of our educational offer. What was mentioned above, teachers of our school are afraid of the called "European exclusion" in terms of quick and free access to educational literature, modern and up - date methods of teaching, etc. You have know English to use freely information and comunication technology, interesting in educational programmes and applications. What is also important, carrying out international projects has a great influence over the estimation and evaluation of the school programme and curriculums by students as well as their parents. That is why our teachers are so willing to participate in the project, hoping that it will result in their high language competence. They also would like to establish international cooperation with European educational institutions. There are 5 teachers who are the members of the project. They all learnt English in their secondary schools, but estimate their knowledge of English as insufficient. Two of them work presently with young kids, three teachers work with 10-13 year-old students, teeaching Mathematics, Science, ICT and Craft and Design.
The project is divided into three stages. The first is about intensive studying English as a foreign language in Poland and abroad. We think that taking part in this course in the United Kingdom will help in getting rid of a language barrier. The second stage of this project is taking part in a methodological – language course in our country. Changing dates of those two mobilities will allow those people whose language skills are still not successful for a further language practice. This type of training will help to improve English language in more specialized pedagogical field as well as will facilitate searching for didactic solutions. Looking for their own didactic solutions will be carried out on the internet. The third stage is about using acquired mobilities and competences and can be used in the meantime. Taking advantage of the opportunity to get new personal contacts and eTwilling, will help our teachers to look for a new partners in organising and carrying out international project on the internet and as a part of Erasmus +KA2. Apart from that, they will organize pedagogical trainings on the subject of Erasmus + and acquired new didactic methodological solutions. They will also support to implement them.
We expect to reach measurable solutions such as: the increase of language competence of all the participants, trainings of school boards on the subject of Erasmus + and sharing knowledge about methodological didactic solutions, carrying out an international project on the internet and preparing an application for Erasmus + KA2. Apart from that, we also expect to reach additional effects such as the increase of motivation to learning English among students and teachers, the interest of European projects among teachers, implementing new didactic solutions. The long term goal of this project would help to reach the European character of our school and a prestige and attractiveness of our school outside.
