European Network for Technology Enhanced Learning in an Inclusive Society
Start date: Jan 1, 2014,
Notwithstanding efforts of projects and organisations to reduce the digital divide, the gap is a concrete reality for people with disabilities of all ages and which has a negative impact on their inclusion and participation in society and on the development of their full potential and selffulfilment. "Education", with whatever means, and in whatever form (formal, non-formal and informal), seems an obvious strategy to reduce the gap, but fragmented responses to the educational and technological needs of people with disabilities pose the risk of being ineffective if they are not tailored to the needs of individuals and his/her life path. Within the current project we will address this issue, by creating a sustainable network of significant stakeholders in digital competence acquisition of people with disabilities. The role of assistive technology in educational processes will be a central issue in this project, although also mainstream ICT and accessibility issues will be addressed. A novel aspect is that the initiative for this project is taken by a group of European umbrella organisations with a different focus. They recognise that the competence of different actors is needed to go beyond the exisiting state and to come to new goals and strategies. In this project we will facilitate the exchange of information, analyse the state-of-the-art, we will assess barriers and needs, we will develop a vision on future goals to guide and direct policies in education and social care and we will design a roadmap with recommendations for stakeholder agencies. A encompassing policy paper will complete the set of deliverables. We expect these outputs to have an impact on organisations for people with disabilities, on the community of educational and social services, and on policy makers at European, national and local level. At the end of the project there will exist a network of reference, which will be transversally embedded in different European umbrella organisations, and there will be policy documents to guide future actions.
